Grass-tee questions, answered
How do I find a driving range with real grass tees near me?
Browse your state below, or use the near-me locator to sort every range in the directory by distance. Ranges with the green Real Grass or Grass + Mats badge have verified natural-turf hitting areas — every grass claim on this site is backed by a cited source.
Why do so few driving ranges offer grass tees?
Natural turf needs recovery time, mowing, and irrigation, so grass lines cost far more to run than mats. Many ranges rotate a limited grass line seasonally or reserve it for members and lessons, which is why verified grass availability is worth checking before you drive.
Are grass tees available year-round?
Usually not. Most ranges close or rotate the grass line in the off-season to let turf recover and move hitting to mats. Where we know a range's grass schedule, it's shown on the listing — when in doubt, call ahead.
Is practicing off grass really better than mats?
Grass gives true turf interaction — real divots, honest feedback on fat and thin strikes — which most coaches prefer for iron practice. Mats are more forgiving and consistent in any weather. Many good practice plans mix both.
